Youtube: Goodwill Haul

As you all know by now, Goodwill is one of my favourite shopping locations in the US, you can grab a few bargains whilst giving to a good cause and I always manage to find some gems. To watch the video, click here!

Sleek Matte Me Review: Petal and Birthday Suit

As a lover of matte lips I was really excited with the launch of Sleek's Matte Me collection, especially as it featured two nude shades that I find are often cast out of matte collections in favour of bold and bright tones. I've been on the hunt for a matte nude lip colour for a while and rushed out to buy the soft baby pink 'Petal' and neutral brown 'Birthday Suit' when they were released - so how do they fair?

Birthday Suit

Of the two shades this was the one I was the most unsure of, it's not a colour that I would usually go for but I actually really like it as a bold neutral against my fair skin. Having said that, I also think that this colour would suit a range of skin tones, especially those with a bit more of a tan to create a more nude look. On me, the darker tone makes this lip colour really effective for over lining, I can slightly exaggerate my lip shape whilst still keeping a natural look.

Petal

I absolutely love this colour! It's a pretty baby pink that sits perfectly between Barbie and sophisticated nude and it's great for someone with my colouring. Unlike Birthday Suit this isn't the best shade for over lining your lips however, it's just too light and just looks far too obvious, but nevertheless I'm always looking for pinks like this and it's definitely a keeper!

Application

Sleek Matte Me's come with a doe-foot applicator that is great for accurately filling in your lips and creating the perfect shape. I apply two coats of the matte lip cream over lip balm to try and limit any drying but this product is still quite uncomfortable to apply. The colour goes on wet and dries matte over a period of around 30 seconds - but during this time I feel like I have to keep my mouth open to avoid my lips from touching together and ruining the look, as you can imagine this just leaves me looking quite special for a while and makes it really hard to speak…or swallow...

Formula

As I hinted at previously, this formula is really quite drying and the process is uncomfortable on the lips as the product dries to a matte finish and dries your lips out along with it, even with a lip balm underneath. Nevertheless, once the product is dry it's not unbearable and seeing as how I like the finish, I'm willing to put up with it. The major downside to these products however is the staying power - these lip creams are not waterproof at all. When eating, drinking, or even licking your lips (basically any contact with water) this product crumbles in the most unflattering way. Instead of coming away like a lipstick that can simply be reapplied, this product flakes on the lips and the residue can then only be removed with water or make up remover (not ideal when you're out!). When I wore these out for the first time, I had lunch in Starbucks and hadn't realised the way in which these lip creams crumble, it was only in a shop mirror that I saw I had flakes of the lip colour all over my lips along with patches where the colour had come off completely! I ran into a bathroom and had to scrub my lips with wet tissue to remove the rest of the product so that I could then reapply. So yeah, not the most practical of lip products to wear out.

Overall Rating

5/10
I absolutely love the colour, finish and price of these products but for me, the formula really lets them down. I will still wear them, but I'll have to think twice before wearing them for significant periods of time - I would definitely never wear them out to dinner!

Have you tried these before? What did you think?

Insta-update: Grey hair don't care

I haven't done a post like this in a while so I thought I'd just give you all a quick update on things with a few photos from my instagram account (username ellenatlanta).

To say I've been fairly busy recently is a bit of an understatement! Last week was spent on holiday with 13 of my friends in Bulgaria and despite a knee dislocation; half an hour spent trying to rescue my roommates from a jammed lift at 4am (whilst covered head to toe in paint) and a particular incident in which my boyfriend broke a little plastic Wendy House, resulting in us all being followed by the Bulgarian police... we all had a great time! The holiday was over so soon and when we got home on the Saturday I quickly repacked a suitcase to drive to my Grandad's 70th Birthday Party and fly to my Dad's in America on Monday. So yeah, it's been pretty hectic! But I'm in the US now for three weeks so I can take some time just to chill and focus on blogging.

Before I flew out to Bulgaria I got my hair dyed a more ash-blonde colour and I really love it, I was fed up with the yellow tones in my hair and asked my hairdresser to add a lot more violet and grey this time - I'm over the moon with the results. I love that it's still blonde but that in certain lights it can look quite grey with lilac tones, I've been using the Lee Stafford Purple Shampoo to maintain the colour and it's working really well, if any of you would like a haircare routine or full review on the shampoo please let me know :)

What do you guys think of this colour?

New in: Topshop Lenka Chunky Sole Heels

Sometimes I feel like the people at Topshop HQ can read my mind - I've been looking for the perfect silver platform for a while now and just wasn't finding anything I liked…until these babies popped up on the new-in section of Topshop's site. I ordered them immediately and I'm completely in love, just like many other bloggers are with the all-white and black versions. Not only did I get the perfect pair of chunky silver platforms, but these heels are ridiculously comfortable and instantly add some much needed length to my little legs. The chunky platform and heel along with the extreme tread also make me feel more comfortable wearing them with shorts and skirts in the hot weather, without feeling too overdressed. Plus, they're shiny…what more could a girl want?

What do you think of these shoes?

My Fujifilm Instax Mini 8

If you follow me on instagram you'll know that I recently got a Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 polaroid camera as a present from my mum before I go on holiday on Friday (eeek not long now!) and it's so cute I just had to share it with you lovely lot. I opted for the white version as I wasn't keen on the other shades, the pink is quite wishy-washy and the turquoise is quite bright, sooo I opted for this one with the idea of customising it (i.e. covering it in crap) when it arrived - and that I did! I know not everyone will be a fan but I just love how kawaii and 90s the final outcome looks and I can't wait to take some cute snaps with it when I'm away!

The Italian Gardens

Hat - Asos (in the sale!)
Sunglasses - Forever 21
Necklace - Tesco
Playsuit - Topshop
Belt - Goodwill
Bag - Zara
Shoes - DIY (see post here)

These are the photos from our second day in London (the day after my nails were done at WAH). We had the perfect morning in Hyde Park, strolling around in the sunshine, eating ice-creams and stumbling across 'The Italian Gardens', which I fell head over heels in love with. This place is my new favourite part of London, it honestly felt like we were in some sort of Tuscan paradise - I just love when bustling cities have areas of lushness and calm like this. I also really love the way these photos turned out…I just wish I could use backdrops like this every OOTD!

Get in my wardrobe #21: Nasty Gal

Go with the low dress

It's no secret that Nasty Gal is a bloggers' favourite and I am no exception, but living in the UK makes it that bit more expensive to shop there and when I order from overseas, I always feel less like I can take risks on things and send them back if they're not quite right. However, in a couple of weeks I'll be jetting off to America and before I go I always tend to look online to see if there's any US goodies I can get whilst I'm out there. Whilst browsing through Nasty Gal I seem to have compiled a rather large wish list and I'm trying to decide which pieces I love the most (because I don't have thousands of pounds), at the moment I'm loving the backless pink playsuit as an option for prom and I'm head over heels for the sunglasses…but what do you guys think?
